Friends of Langstone Hbr.

Home Up

The Friends of Langstone Harbour is an organisation that you can join for just £2.00  It was formed in 1997 to coordinate a wider interest in the care of the harbour.  Its objectives are to help maintain the harbour and its surrounding environment, to protect and preserve the countryside and wildlife along the coast and to advance the education of the public in relation to use of the harbour.  E Mail me if you would like me to send you a leaflet.

Friends Work Parties

March 29th 2008 - Beach Clean

This beach clean followed the storm surge of 10th March and that had led to a huge amount of litter on the beach.  Notable there were 127 bottle, 658 pieces of broken glass, 16 large sheets or planks of wood, and a number of large lumps of scrap metal.  The bits we could weigh amounted to 90Kg.

IS YOUR VOICE HEARD?

The Friends of Langstone Harbour are represented on the Advisory Committee for the Harbour, we initially had an Observer role but are now full voting participants - this shows the high respect our organisation has gained within the Harbour in a relatively short time.

The Advisory Committee to the Langstone Harbour Board are keen to make sure that anyone interested in the Harbour has a chance to put their views or ask questions. They have established two working groups one Environmental, one Maritime, which members of the public are welcome to attend. Points raised in the working groups are then passed on to the Advisory Committee for action. If you are interested in attending either of these groups or wish to know what topics are being raised on the next agendas please contact one of the following:

Fred Haynes - Chairman, Environmental Working Group (023 9263 2787)

Tony Pearce - Chairman Maritime Working Group (023 9245 3105)

Bob Russell Chairman, Advisory Committee (023 9225 2742)
